ON THE GRID responds to the 2021 ISTD brief ‘Putting Things in Order’, specifically how grids create order in design. The book explores different types of grids, as each type has its own way of creating order.

This book is divided into three main sections. Anatomy is first as it provides essential information for the following section, Types of Grids. This central section answers the brief by ordering different grids, with demonstrations and explanations of how each grid creates order in design.
Pacing is maintained through large headings and consistent layouts for the informative pages, contrasting with illustrative pages displaying the grid in question. The final section, Evolution of Grids, demonstrates the use of my document grid in an index, with smaller body text and singular columns to match the intent of this information as extra historical content.

This project led to me being awarded membership to the International Society of Typographic Designers.
